Ten hurt in leopard attack

The leopard made its appearance at Vandaru Nadubettu village at around 9.15 am and injured a villager Rajani (37). It attacked Rajani and cut her flesh from the right hand. Later, the leopard injured the left hand of another woman Gulabi (55), who was sitting in front of her house in the same village.

Meanwhile, N Vasudeva Aithal (62), a resident of Kakkunje, has been injured severely by the leopard. Since Aithal has sustained fracture on his right hand, he has been referred for specialised treatment.

The first phase of leopard’s attack had concluded at around 10.30 am. However, it continued attacks again after 12 noon where Purusha Naik, a 68-year-old person from Neeramakki in Thenkabettu, has been injured. Others, who were injured in leopard attacks are Parvathi (25) of Kenji Metkal, Ganavathi Shetty (40) of Kanthimakki, Sanklabail Seetharama Shetty, Seena and Vandaru Forest Watcher Vittal Nayak (42). Most of the injured were taken to Sri Manjunatha Hospital in Kundapur. The leopard, which created anxiety in the village, has finally been caught at around 4.30 pm. It was trapped using a net at the house of Seetharama Shetty in Sankadabagilu in Vandaru. Forest watcher Vittal Nayak had sustained serious injuries on his right hand and neck while he was engaged in the operation.
