Faulty auditing covered up many BBMP scams: Mathai

BBMP Assistant Commissioner (Advertisement) K Mathai in his seventh report has said that faulty auditing has covered up many scams including the advertisement scam in the Palike.

“Wrong accounting and faulty audit practices are followed in advertisement department of the BBMP for the past several years which has resulted in camouflaging the lapses, which in turn has led to loss of revenue being undetected continuously for several years and the erratic practices continue even today. The same holds true in all other departments of the BBMP,’’ he noted.

He further noted that advertisement department didn’t maintain any accounts.  
“An auditing by external auditors as well as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India will augment the BBMP revenue and put an end to faulty audit practices.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, who has filed a case in the High Court seeking an audit of BBMP accounts by the CAG, has said “There is a strong stench of malfeasance in the BBMP finances and only a CAG audit will locate the diverted funds that belong to the citizens and bring the culprits to book.’’
