Revenue and District In-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad, on Wednesday, emphasised on special coaching in spoken English and computer skills for youngsters among SC, ST and backward classes to improve their job prospects.

Addressing the gathering, during the launch of the divisional-level ‘Kaushalya Karnataka’, a venture of the Labour department and Karnataka Vocational Training and Skills Development Corporation, at Jaganmohan Palace here, Prasad said, due to lack of English and computer skills the aforesaid candidates fail in education.

Moreover, their economically weaker status is also one of the reason for not getting quality education. “But, the youth should become job givers rather than being job seekers, as the government is ready to help them,” he said.

State Labour Minister P T Parameshwar Naik said, there was no dearth of opportunities and the youth should make use of them.

“The government is providing training in vocational skills for unemployed persons to make them job ready. The vocational skills training programme that was stopped five years ago in 2011 for some reasons has been resumed from Mysuru division. To give impetus to this, the State, in its recent budget, has announced a separate department for vocational training. Besides, a multi-trade system will be introduced in industrial training institutes to give opportunity for the students to pursue education in two vocational skills at the same time,” he added.
