A 51-year-old woman died after being hit by a speeding train near Kumara Park on Wednesday morning.
The railway police identified the victim as Pushpalatha, a resident of West of Chord Road. She is survived by her husband Vijayakumar, a daughter and her son-in-law.
On Wednesday morning, she went near the track and was hit by a train. She suffered severe injuries and one of her legs was severed. The public, who noticed her profusely bleeding and writhing in pain, rushed her to a nearby private hospital where she died later, said the police.
The police shifted the body for post-mortem and informed the family members. Pushpalatha was said to be depressed over her ill-health and may have committed suicide, the police said.
