Karnataka State PU College Principals’ and Lecturers’ Association of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi units have urged the state government to implement the recommendations of Kumar Naik Committee 2011 with regard to their pay scale.

Saraswathi PU College Principals’ Association president, told mediapersons on Thursday, “We have been seeking our rights since November through various forms of agitation. As a last resort, we decided to boycott the evaluation process.

With deep sense of pain and commitment towards our duties, we apologise to our students and parents and seek their support in this lawful agitation for justice. We do have ethical and moral responsibilities.”

She said, “We appeal to the state government to provide us justice to ensure that we return to our duties and successfully complete the evaluation process.”

She said that the government was not fair in revising the basic pay of teachers since 1998. “There is no parity in the basic pay with other equivalent cadre officers like tahsildars. Now, the government should implement at least the pay scale recommended by the panel. There is a difference of Rs 5,300 in the basic pay of teachers when compared to other equivalent government posts, which should be rectified,” she demanded.

AMUCT supports
Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) has extended its support to the protesting PU College lecturers.
