Last Updated 20 February 2010, 18:20 IST

The Authority in last September decided to acquire about 122 acres of land spread over Garudrihalli and Guttahalli in Betamangala hobli. Despite objections raised by the farmers, the authority has warned of acquiring the land if the possession was not handed over voluntarily.

The farmers, dependent on their land for livelihood are contemplating suicide owing the proposed acquisition, alleged Vedike district president Rajagopla Gowda. The Authority will not be allowed to acquire lands in Ghattakamadhenuhalli, Krishnapur,  Pichchahalli, Kammasandra, Nagasettyhalli, Parandhalli and Guttahalli on City outskirts, he declared.

No takers

As many as 500 houses were constructed near Rajesh Camp on KGF-Kuppam road and have even been allotted to beneficiaries. However majority of the houses are still vacant. No one is residing in Ashraya houses constructed by acquiring agricultural lands in Pottepalli village.

The authority formed sites in 19 acres of acquired land in Pottepali and Parandahalli and no houses have been constructed even after 15 years of allotment. “While there are no takers for site in KGF city itself, what is the rationale in forming sites four kilometres away,?” questioned taluk president Nanjundappa. The protesters who took out a mach in the City later submitted a memorandum to the Bheemareddy, the commissioner of the Urban Development Authority.
