A traffic Sub Inspector attached to the Rajajinagar police station faced the ire of a youth who not only allegedly abused him but also assaulted him on Saturday. Prem Kumar, a resident of Basaveshwarnagar was riding a bike towards the ISKCON temple in Rajajinagar 1st Block. His two friends also accompanied him on a moped when traffic PSI Kumaraswamy blocked his way for riding in a rash and negligent manner and not wearing the mandatory helmet, around 4 pm in Mahalakshmi Layout.

Kumar lost his cool and started abusing Kumaraswamy when the latter came forward to book a case against him. Using some invectives, Prem Kumar allegedly rebuked him and hurled abuses at him. The accused also reportedly threatened him with dire consequences if he booked the case against him, eye witnesses said.

Power punch

Kumaraswamy, however, didn't react and tried to take the motorcycle aside. This further infuriated Kumar who picked up a glass rod lying in front of a nearby shop and attempted to smash it on Kumaraswamy.

In the melee, he punched him on the chest. Rajajinagar traffic Police Inspector Vanitha G and Mahalakshmi Layout police personnel soon rushed to the spot, arrested him and took him to the station.

A fine of Rs 1,400 has been slapped on Kumar and cases related to using a defunct silencer, horn, registration plate and driving without helmet have been registered against him.

Cases booked

Further, Mahalakshmi Layout police have also booked separate cases under sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from discharging his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against him.

Kumar will be produced before the jurisdictional metropolitan magistrate on Sunday.
Last Wednesday, two drunk Iranian women had created ruckus and assaulted Shivajinagar traffic police Sub Inspector Ganesh Rao when he booked them for drunken driving near Cubbon Park.
