BJP-Cong spar ahead of Ambedkar's anniversary

Last Updated 09 April 2016, 19:46 IST

In a political battle to usurp Dr Ambedkar’s legacy, the Congress will wind up its series of functions in his honour with a rally at Nagpur on Monday.

To counter the BJP punch ahead of UP and Punjab polls that the Congress has forgotten Ambedkar, the Opposition party has lined up its top leaders, beginning from president Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul, former PM Manmohan Singh, leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge and Ghulam Nabi Azad respectively and its chief ministers to address the public rally at Kasturchand Park.

Party chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul will fly down to Nagpur on Monday afternoon and visit “Deekshabhoomi” – the place Ambedkar embraced Buddhism way back in 1956 -- to pay homage to him on his 125th birth anniversary.
