Call to adopt scientific methods in farming

Speaking at a workshop on control of flies organised for mango growers at the Horticulture office here on Friday, he said that the flies could be effectively controlled by using nets. The unriped mangoes that fall in the garden should be buried. A community effort in this regard would go a long way in preventing the multiplication of flies colony.

Observing that mango trees have flowered in stages this year, he advised to pluck the yield at a minimum of three regular intervals. The growers can make a handsome profit with suitable measures to prevent the crop and preserve the yield. He suggested the growers to focus attention on these aspects.

Senior director of Horticulture Department B M Mallikarjun said that the mango growers in the taluk have been using nets and have succeeded in controlling the flies. Dr Shivananda, another scientist, enlightened on the importance of organic farming.

Taluk Assistant Director of Horticulture Srinivas, Taluk Mango Growers Association president Chandrareddy, director of Federation of Kolar Milk Producing Cooperatives Munivenkatappa were present.
