Probe has been intensified into the suspected honour killing at Chandravadi village, in the Nanjanagudu taluk, which came to light on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Madhu. It is alleged that Madhu’s body was burnt in a hurry by her family, allegedly in an effort to destroy evidences.

A team of police, led by SP Abhinav Khare, has taken Madhu’s father Gurumallappa and brother Guruprasad to an undisclosed location for inquiry. Forensic experts were summoned on Tuesday night and evidences collected. Madhu’s parents, brother and Jayaram, who was in love with her, are being questioned.

As Madhu had failed in the SSLC exam, she had discontinued her studies. She was allegedly in love with a youth belonging to another caste. Learning about her affiair, her parents had arranged her wedding with Shivaraju of the village. The wedding was scheduled to be held on April 29 and wedding invites had also been distributed.

Meanwhile, Madhu’s death on Tuesday, had come as a shock to the locals. However, her parents claimed that she complained of chest pain and was taken to the hospital and died en route, after which they cremated her.

The cremation at a distance of a kilometre from the village, without informing the villagers and other family members, has given rise to suspicion of honour killing.
