The latest crisis in Sandalwood is the faceoff between actor Malashree, director Imran and producer K Manju about the project ‘Uppu Huli Kara’.

While actor Malashree says that the incident is a clear instance of miscommunication, the others involved in the problem say that the whole issue has been misinterpreted.

Actors and directors within the Kannada film industry feel the issue should not have been taken out in the open and could have been solved between the disputing parties.

Actor Malashree says the latest project, ‘Uppu Huli Kara’ with Imran began on a good note.

“I was very impressed with the storyline when Imran narrated it to me but things started getting out of hand when I wanted clarity on a couple of issues,” says Malashree, who is popular for her action skills on screen.

A few actors and directors in the Kannada film industry feel the problem has been made too big.

Director Shashank says, “No project can have a smooth sail but any crisis within the project must be solved between the disputing parties. No controversy should be taken out into the public because then it could assume an altogether different dimension. There can be room for a lot of miscommunication and misinterpretation,” says Shashank. He also feels that sometimes there are people who try to create problems just to stop a project or even delay it.

“This is where the problems take on a different meaning and things get worse,” he adds. Women must be respected at all cost, points out director PC Shekar, who feels a senior actor such as Malashree should not have been insulted in public.

“Women must be respected. Only the people involved in the problem know how to solve it best. Any third party intervention would only add to the existing problems,” says Shekar.

He also feels that Kannada film industry is a small place where everybody know each other. “I think we are all a part of one big family. Even small issues within the Kannada film industry affect the industry as a whole,” says Shekar.

Another actor who didn’t want to be named, says that she too has faced a similar situation but thankfully it wasn’t blown out of proportion.

“Women are the worst affected whenever there is a problem anywhere. Here, I feel Malashree has been dragged into a lot of controversy. Women must always be guarded from such situations,” she says.
