Glowing inside out

What if I told you eating healthy isn’t vital only for your body, but also for your appearance? Indulging in loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, salads, sprouts, clear soups, fresh fruit juices and other low-calorie foods will definitely make you healthy from the inside. 

Fruits and vegetables that are low in starch and high in fibre are ideal. The intake of starchy vegetables like peas, potatoes and beans should be decreased. Instead, choose sprouts, cucumber, avocado, apples and berries. In this scorching summer, lemon (a rich source of Vitamin C) can be very refreshing. Start your day with the juice of a lemon in a glass of warm water and say goodbye to all the toxins lurking in  your body. It has been found that taking lemon regularly can help to relieve headaches and soothe digestive problems. 

Next time you crave for a cuppa, go in for green tea. A powerhouse of antioxidants, green tea is said to aid weight loss, lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Another common kitchen ingredient which is highly beneficial is fennel. Rich in minerals and low on calories, fennel helps prevent oxidation damage, soothes inflammation and boosts digestion. 

When it comes to fruits, think of melons. Melons contain less calories but are high in vitamins and minerals, which are said to help weight loss. They also help to prevent the accumulation of fat, specially on the abdomen. Like other citrus fruits, grapefruit also helps in burning fat and losing weight. It has a cleansing effect and helps to remove toxins. It is rich in Vitamin C, folic acid, potassium and pectin. 

Look beyond the usual potatoes and tomatoes when it comes to vegetables. Include broccoli and cabbage in your diet. Cabbage is rich in antioxidants and helps strengthen the immune system. Have it stir fried or in salads. Broccoli can also be stir fried or lightly cooked to suit your tastes.
