Mastering Asian cuisines

Quirky interiors
Last Updated 28 April 2016, 18:40 IST

The pan-Asian restaurant chain Mamagoto is known for its experimental food in which they fuse different cuisines that give their dishes a distinctive taste.

However, out of their many outlets in Delhi and NCR, none of them are same in terms of food they serve. Metrolife went to explore the flavours offered by their newest and eighth outlet recently launched in Noida.

Situated on level two of DLF Mall of India, the place has vibrant, eclectic and quirky interiors. The two sumo wrestlers painted on the glass wall and Asian cartoons characters from Hong Kong and China on other walls add to its originality.

The décor makes it a perfect setting for a fun Asian eating experience.

Coming to the menu, Mamagoto has thoughtfully curated dishes that are predominantly of Asian origins, focusing mainly on the regional cuisines of China, Thailand and Japan (including a few from Indonesia, Burma and Malaysia).

All dishes are presented in a signature style while retaining classic flavors of pan-Asia. The menu boasts a selection of scrumptious appetisers, soups, salads and the Mamagoto signature rice and noodles that are served in a bowl, along with dishes from the Robata Grill, uses a Japanese form of coal firing barbeque cooking.

To start with, we ordered Prawn Tempura and Chicken with Garlic  and Crispy Spinach. Served with their special dipping sauce and schezwan chilli sauce, the crispy prawn pieces melted in our mouth.

Among the mocktails (they are yet to get their bar license) we chose Passion Fruit and Orange Cooler and Lemon Zest and Mint Lemonade. With the right proportion of sweetness and freshness, the mocktails were a good pick.

However, the chicken dish was surprise to our taste buds. The rich flavour and aroma of aniseed used in plenty made the dish star of the evening. Spiced Asian BBQ Chicken Breast and Street Style Spicy Dumplings (veg) are also worth try.

Moving to the main course, we tried the Teriyaki Meal in a Bowl (chicken) and Crispy Fish Fillet with Spicy Black Pepper Sauce served with veg fried rice. Alongside, we were served drinks Cranberry and Kaffir Lime Punch and Kiwi and Mint Collins which were satisfactory.

The meal bowl was a great combination of fried sticky rice (with vegetables) and wok tossed tofu with winter ginger, spring onions, onions and garlic.

However, to our utter surprise, the dish which appeared red-hot, was slightly on the sweeter side. Though the fish lacked the crispiness, it was rich in flavours and was filling for our stomach.

For desserts, one can try their home-made Coconut and Palm Sugar Ice Cream and American Style Sponge Cake.

So, enter Mamagoto’s yellow doors for a quirky experience with delectable pan-Asian delights!
