The shortage of water in the temple town has hit the Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt as well.

The mutt has started purchasing 10 tankers of water everyday. It provides meals (as prasada) in the afternoon and night to devotees.

At least 3,000 to 5,000 devotees consume the food at the mutt everyday.

The number of devotees is high on Saturday and Sunday. Krishna Mutt supplies meals to 35,000 children under ‘Chinnara Santharpane’ in the district. A huge quantity of water is required for cooking and cleaning purposes on a regular basis.

There are two wells in the mutt. The water level has declined and is not sufficient for the requirements of the mutt.

With the depletion in water level, the Theppotsava in Madhwa Sarovara has been suspended, the mutt staff said.
