2 kids, woman killed as lintel of college building falls

Three persons including two children were killed when a window lintel of an under-construction building of Sarvodaya College collapsed on a shed of dailywage labourers at RT Nagar in the city on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Prajwal (8), son of daily wage labourers Durgappa and Anandamma; Dhanush (2), his mother Suriyakka (26).

Tippanna (19) and Yesuswamy (1) have sustained serious injuries in the accident and are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Prajwal and Dhanush died on the spot while Suriyakka breathed her last at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru. The victims are natives of Bommanahalli of Devadurga taluk in Raichur district.

The incident occurred when the lintel of an under-constraction laboratory building of Sarvodaya College collapsed on the shed where the labourers were residing.

People who gathered at the accident spot blamed the negligence of the contra-ctors for the accident. According to the college sources, Asha Prasannakumar had bagged the contract for the construction of the labora-tory building.

Deputy Commissioner K P Mohan Raj, who rushed to the spot of the accident, broke down after seeing the little ones crushed under the concrete frame.

Mohan Raj assured the parents of the deceased children and the woman of necessary help from the state government.
