Speeding bike kills pedestrian

A speeding bike mowed down a 62-year-old pedestrian near Singasandra in Electronic city on Friday night. the deceased has been identified as Nagaraj, a retired NGEF employee and a resident of Singasandra.

The police said that the accident occurred around 7.30 pm when Nagaraj was crossing the road. Keshav, who was speeding on his bike rammed Nagaraj, who was killed on the spot. Naveen, the pillion rider sustained injuries in the accident. Passersby alerted Electronic City traffic police, who visited the spot.

However, the police had to wait for more than two hours to shift the body for post mortem due to the delay arrival of ambulance. “They alerted asked the NHAI authorities to send an ambulance to shift Nagaraj’s body for post-mortem. But the vehicle did not came even after two hours. Later, a private vehicle was arranged to shift the body and the and Nagaraj was shifted the body for post-mortem and the injured were taken to a private hospital,” said a senior police officer.

The officer said that usually the ‘108’ ambulance do not ferry dead bodies and hence they had choice but to arrange a private vehicle. “But, NHAI officials could have told us that they cannot send an ambulance instead of making us wait.

The senior officials at the NHAI has been intimated about the issue,” added the officer. The Electronic City traffic police has registered a case against Keshav for rash and negligent riding.
