Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the meeting, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar hinted that the gram panchayat elections will be held during the second week of April and a notification to this effect will be announced sometime in March.  Elections to 5,628 gram panchayats will be held to elect 91,000 members.

State BJP President K S Eshwarappa said the party will soon appoint one person as incharge to every gram panchayat for selection of candidates and coordination. The state BJP will also launch a signature campaign against the UPA government for failing to control price rise.

Addressing a press conference after the maiden meeting of the newly elected office bearers, party spokesperson Ayanur Manjunath said the campaign will go on from March 21 to 28. A target of collecting 1.15 crore signatures has been set.

The party will also hold rallies and campaign against price rise at the block and taluk level from March 1.  A massive convention will be held in Bangalore on April 5, he added.
