The Communist Party of India (Marxists) has announced its support to writer K S Bhagwan, who is contesting the election to the State Legislative Council from South Graduates seat, scheduled for June 9.

Bhagwan is contesting the polls as an independent with the support of like-minded persons, especially Dalits.

Addressing the media on Sunday, former MLA G V Sriramreddy, also secretary of CPM State unit, announced that the party has decided to support Bhagwan, considering the latter’s continuous fight against right-minded fundamentalists, besides involving in Dalit and farmers’ movements.

Reacting to media queries, Reddy said, Bhagwan had himself contacted the party and hence it was decided to extend support to him.

Reddy admitted that the number of elected representatives from the party is dwindling, but claimed that it is yet a force to reckon with, taking part in most people’s movements.
