Selvaraj crowned the champion

Chennai race driver grabs four titles

With the likes of the Toyota Supras and the Honda Civics in the category, Selvaraj, on debut, had an unlikely chance of staging a surprise but his cornering ability and lines on the chicanes left faster cars trailing him in the dust.

Selvaraj clocked a time of 1:27.47 while fancied Shabbir, driving a beefed-up Supra, came a distant second with a time of 1:29.72. Nitwin (1:31.04) stood third place.

Selvaraj’s was far from finished for the day as the Chennai driver clinched the top spot in three more races. Driving the fibre body Esteem, Selvaraj drove with caution on the curves but kept his foot glued to the accelerator on the five straights to clock the fatest time of 1:30.05 in the 1101 cc-1400 cc category. Highly-acclaimed Deepak Paul Chinnappa (1:31.96) and Krishnajit (1:33.06) finished second and third, respectively.

Having bagged two titles already, Selvaraj drove back down to run the Diesel category and to everyone’s surprise he was  a second faster than the second-placed driver. Selvaraj cut the tape at 1:40.81 while Akshay took 1:41.91 to finish the 1.7 km course. Cheluvaraj (1:42.04) came in third.

Selvaraj finished in a time of 1:27.49 to be crowned the champ in the Indian category.
