If the thought of food keeps you pre-occupied and the gurgling of wine is the call of the mystical siren for you, then Metrolife seeks to further your indulgence. The Food Lover’s Club, a collective, is the brainchild of the Bangalore-based Kripal Amanna.

Talking about how the club started, he says, “It’s for those who are interested in food, wine, and gastronomy.” This club which was founded about a year-and-half ago, Amanna says was intended to “create real life experiences for Bangaloreans.” The club itself is more of an informal gathering of like-minded individuals than a formal one. There is no concept of membership fees, application forms and waiting to be accepted. The club regularly hosts events which are advertised about six weeks in advance.

Over the last year, the club has organised some 16 events that ranged from The elite Food And Wine Experience to Chefs for Charity, which was held to raise funds for Sneha Nilaya, an orphanage. The club intends to build a community around food. They organise an average of about two events per month.

Some of the most popular programmes run by the club are its wine-appreciation programmes. The club caters to everybody by running three different levels of the same. ‘Wine Basics’ as the name suggests is for beginners, Flights of Wine is the intermediate level and the Food and Wine Experience in which different wines are paired with different dishes, is the advanced level. For people like Sundeep Gurtu, a photographer, these programmes make wine less intimidating.

The organisation, it is said, has the ability to run an event without hitch. Indu Champati, a hotelier, compliments the club saying, “Right from registration, you never have reason to complain. They also make room for you. For instance, if you can’t have the cash dropped off, they will still confirm your registration and keep a table available for you. You can get their and pay them.”

The Food Lover’s Club has two events scheduled for June. The first is the food and wine experience, which will be on June 24. Here a five-course dinner will be paired with wines. The second event is on June 28, which will be a session of wine basics.

The club plans to take this to the next level with a ‘Foodie Trail’.
