As a precursor to World Environment Day and to commemorate the completion of 30 lakh km of green travel by the electric vehicles (EV) in the city, a rally featuring 12 electric cars was organised on Saturday.

A fleet of electric cars launched by Lithium Urban Technologies in April 2015 covered more than 15 km, including the Cubbon Park, Indiranagar, Old Airport Road, Marathahalli and Whitefield.

Lithium Urban Technologies Co-founder Ashwin Mahesh said: “We currently have about 200 cars catering to global corporates. India’s first electric car was manufactured in Bengaluru and also the first city to have such a large fleet of electric cars.” Every week, at least 10,000 passengers travel in these vehicles. The company deploys quick charging machines to charge the cars on the campuses of global corporates.

CEO and Co-founder of Lithium Urban Technologies Sanjay Krishnan said: “The fleet size has grown from zero to over 200 in the last 11 months. Our vision is to convert one billion km from ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) to EV in the next five years.”
