BPCL to impart hazardous chemicals handling training

To begin with, BPCL refinery here would conduct a two-day workshop on handling of hazardous chemicals to all officers and fire fighting crew in the state services who are the first responders of such emergencies, a release said.

The programme will be launched by Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday.

Following the LPG tanker trucker mishap at Karunagappaly recenty, discussions were held at various government levels and it was felt that there was an urgent need to give proper training to Kerala state Fire and Resce Services Personel in handling of hazardous chemicals effectively, it said.

Using the in-house competencies, BPCL Kochi Refinery Learning Centre, has been extending assistance to educated unemployed in their knowledge, skills and attitude by offering certificate courses in fire and safety, petroleum refiring and operation and maintenance of equipments in hydrocarbon industries, the release said.
