“Unable to digest the defeat in the 2014 election, the Congress is levelling allegations against the BJP-led NDA government,” said Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

She was addressing the ‘Vikas Parva – India entering as powerful nation’ programme organised on the NDA government completing two years, at Town Hall on Wednesday.

She said, “There is a new governance paradigm in the country after the Narendra Modi-led government came to power in the centre. The politics of appeasing a particular class has received a break. The government has been working towards efficient delivery of services and empowerment of the poor through various welfare schemes.”

She said, “The entire government mechanism is with the people of the country through various social media. The Modi government and its ministers have been prompt and proactive in harnessing the power of social media, especially when it comes to governance. As a result, the government is accessible to the people at any given point of time.”

She challenged the Congress to point out one step which was taken up by the government that has helped the rich at the cost of the poor. Those who can not digest the move of the government clear the system are engaged levelling false allegations, she added.

With the weeding out of bogus ration cards, a sum of Rs 36,000 crore has been saved. About 3.7 crore new LPG connections have been given in 2015-16 using the money saved from over one crore cooking gas users voluntarily giving up their subsidies. By using LED bulbs in 500 cities, about 20,000 mega watt electricity has been saved, she explained.

The minister said that there are no corruption charges against any of the Cabinet ministers in the central government.

Transparency has been maintained in the auctioning of coal blocks. The import of coal has been stopped and adequate coal is available for thermal power stations in the country. The centre is not discriminating against any state when it comes to development works, she insisted.

Haribhai P Choudhary, Minister for State Home Affairs, said that the NDA government has implemented 52 welfare schemes. After the government came to power, around 5,300 villages have been given power connection. The government is committed to the welfare of farmers, he concurred.

Dushyanth Kumar Gautham, former SC Morcha national president, said that a Congress-free India is the aim of Narendra Modi. “A Congress-free India is nothing but building a strong India. After the NDA government came to power, the country has emerged as one of the strongest countries of the world,” he added.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said after the NDA government came to power, Dakshina Kannada has received Rs 10,000 crore for various development works.

“We, however, are failing to get required support from the State government while implementing the works,” he added.
