The Committee was constituted after the BU squads found irregularities and malpractices in a number of affiliated colleges, during May 2009.

The Committee, which visited 105 of the 112 functioning colleges found out that 23 BEd colleges had not admitted students at all since 2008-09. The report submitted by the Committee has categorised colleges as ‘satisfactory’, ‘need improvement’ and colleges with ‘gross irregularities.’

Progress report

The report says that out of the total 105 colleges, 41 have been performing satisfactorily, 31 can show improvement and 33 colleges have gross irregularities in the academic programmes and practical exam.

The report has also asked the BU to take cognisance of the matter in the report before granting them affiliation for the 2010-2011 academic year.

The Committee headed by Professor R M Ranganath has also recommended that a screening committee look into BEd admissions for strict compliance with the Government and University regulations.

The Committee has asked the BU to make the process of internal assessment at colleges transparent and clean.

The report has also recommended that colleges with several staff possessing PhD degrees must be considered for the establishment of research centres.
