Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri said the allocation of Rs 3,675 crore  is commendable. While elementary education sector bagged an outlay of Rs 31,036 crore, the higher education sector received a setback.

Pallavi Jayaram, an MBA student, said that although school education has received the right stimulus, higher education has not. “With the announcements for the improvement of universities and higher education being made by the Union Human Resources Development (HRD) minister and the allocation in the present budget not complementing is a saddening factor” Pallavi said.

Srinivasan K, a lecturer, opined that higher education had been sidelined in 2010-11 Union budget. “There is no substantial allocation for central institutes or universities and this will affect students” he said.
