A 20-month-old baby girl has miraculously survived a fall from the second floor of her house at Kirloskar Layout near Hesaraghatta Road in the city.

Nearly a month ago, Tanisha M (in pic) had slipped through the railing of the balcony of her house while playing. She has now recovered after being treated at a private hospital in the city. Speaking to Deccan Herald, the child’s father Mahendra, who works in a garment shop, said that the child has almost completely recovered.

She was eating in the living room with her mother and brother and later followed him to the room. However, the family members had not noticed Tanisha follow her brother even to the balcony till he informed them that she had accidentally fallen, said Mahendra.

Dr Suman Pallegar, neurosurgeon, People Tree Hospitals, who had attended to the patient recollected that she was brought with a crack in the skull. “Typically, in such cases, we do a surgery and let the brain expand as there will be swelling as a result of the injury. Luckily, the child had fallen in a manner that the skull had opened up making way for the brain to expand. Hence, there was no need for any surgical intervention.”

Dr Pallegar said the child also had minor clots in her brain which were dissolved with medication. “Her eyeballs pushed down the socket of the eye minimally. It is only for this that we did a corrective surgery and decompressed it.” The child is presently on medication to prevent chances of epileptic attacks which are common following head injuries.
