Reacting swiftly to brewing discontent over state BJP chief B S Yeddyurappa's style of functioning, the party top brass sent out a strong message to the former chief minister and asked him to convene a meeting of office-bearers in Bengaluru on July 2.

The central leadership received complaints from some senior leaders, who met in Bengaluru on Tuesday, to express their anguish over appointment of office-bearers without consulting any senior leaders.

Sources told DH that the party leadership is upset as it had instructed Yeddyurappa to take all leaders into confidence before taking any decisions. He had been told to consult seniors and resolve any differences.

The meeting will be attended by Union ministers from the state, MPs, MLAs, party office bearers and district presidents. Though the agenda has not been finalised, disgruntled leaders are expected to demand changes in the set-up made by Yeddyurappa.

The party high command is aware of the developments. They have also received complaints on appointment of leaders, who were with him in the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) as district presidents and some district level office-bearers. “We want Yeddyurappa to make course correction immediately,” sources said.

While appointing him as party president, Amit Shah had told him that he would be projected as the chief ministerial candidate and he (Yeddyurappa) had to take seniors into confidence. His unilateral decision has upset many leaders, said sources. Some leaders in Delhi are also not happy with state unit's tactical understanding with the Congress during the recent Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council polls. Though many leaders in the state favoured an understanding with the JD(S), Yeddyurappa preferred the Congress, the sources said.
