MP writes to CM, questions haste on steel flyover

Last Updated 30 June 2016, 20:46 IST

Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar sought to know from chief minister Siddaramaiah why the government was in a hurry to build it.

In a letter to the chief minister, a copy of which was released to the media on Thursday, Chandrasekhar threat- ened to approach 'other fora' if proper channels are not adopted to get approvals.

Chandrasekhar dubbed the project a blatant misuse of public money and illegal, because it was never placed before the Bengaluru Metropolitan Planning Committee (BMPC).

“There was no public consultation before preparing the detailed project report, no impact study has been prepared and placed in public domain. Media reports suggest about 500 fully grown trees will be cut down to facilitate the proposed project,” he said.

He said the project has left many unanswered questions.  “Its sponsor Bengaluru Development Authority and its leadership is already embroiled in questionable decisions and financial improprieties”
