Conman held for stealing gold chain

The Hanumanthanagar police recently arrested a person for relieving an elderly woman of her gold chain by giving her sedative-laced juice.

The  accused has been identified as Munazeer Ahmed (34), a resident of Gottigere. They have recovered 570 grams of gold valuables worth Rs 17.10 lakh and solved 12 cases booked in various police stations in the city, the police said.

Munazeer would identify houses where senior citizens reside and approach them on the pretext of renting a house. He would then befriend them. Later, he would give them sedative-laced juice and would flee with gold valuables , said the police.

In a similar way, he had befriended Narasamma, 83, a resident of Hanumanthanagar. On June 15, he went to her house when she was alone and added sedative pills to the juice she had prepared. When she drank the juice and fell unconscious, he made away with a gold chain weighing 20 grams. After a couple of hours, Narasamma gained consciousness and found the chain missing. She narrated the incident to her family members and a complaint was filed, based on which Munazeer was arrested, added the police.
