Four held in Nellore for circulating fake notes

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Nellore Police conducted searches on Sunday night in the town and arrested Vishwanatham Bhaskar, a typist with the Citrus Research Station, Nagaraju, a businessman, and two others.

Counterfeit currency notes having a face value of Rs 5 lakh were seized from their possession, they said.The accused were produced before a local court on Monday which sent them to 14 days’ judicial remand, a senior police officer said over the phone.“One Prabhakar Reddy, who is allegedly running a fake note racket, took all the four persons to a town in Tamil Nadu last week. Reddy influenced them to get the counterfeit notes after making them pay Rs 1.5 lakh in cash to a gang,” the officer said.

All the four were planning to circulate the counterfeit notes in Nellore town, he said. A special team is on its way to Tamil Nadu to nab other accused.
