Action only after CID probe: CM

Last Updated 09 July 2016, 19:55 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that police officials in the state were not under pressure and that the truth behind DySP M K Ganapathi’s suicide had to come out after a CID probe, before taking any action.

He told mediapersons here that Ganapathi’s statements to a TV channel were subject to verification.

On BJP leaders’ demand for  handing over the case to the CBI, Siddaramaiah said, “BJP did not hand over a single case to the CBI when it was in power. But, we have given five cases to CBI so far.

‘Mistakes happen’

“Mistakes happen in administration, and we will take action against those responsible for them,” he said.

On the alleged threat to Mysuru Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, Siddaramaiah said that an FIR had been registered and that the police had been instructed to take strict action.

When asked about police officer G N Mohan, who faced action for booking a case against his (Siddaramaiah’s) son Rakesh during the Assembly elections in Varuna constituency in 2013, Siddaramaiah said it was a false case and his son had no connection with the incident. The government had given compensation to the family of slain Police Sub-Inspector Mallikarjun Bande, Siddaramaiah said.

BJP workers detained

Outside the airport premises, BJP leaders tried to stage a protest demanding that George should be dropped from the Cabinet, in the wake of Ganapathi’s allegations, just before the chief minister’s convoy came out.
