Last Updated 11 July 2016, 20:06 IST

Chairperson of Karnataka State Women’s Commission Manjula Manasa met the woman, a victim of kidney sale racket and consoled her, on Monday.

The victim, Chandramma of Magadi taluk in Ramnagar district, has been admitted at Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital at B G Nagar, near here.

Speaking to reporters, later, Manasa said, the kidney racketeers were targetting women as they were vulnerable due to domestic problems and financial crisis.

“Police officials in Ramanagar will be directed to take stringent action against the accused in the case and also to bust the racket. A probe will be taken up to find out if any other women in the factory, where Chandramma was working, have lost their kidneys. It will be cross-checked if there is the involvement of the factory owner and management in the racket,” she said. Dr Dharmendra and Dr Manohar were present.
