BMTC deploys 63 feeder buses at Metro stations

Move aimed at providing connectivity to commuters
Last Updated 21 July 2016, 21:10 IST
The next time you alight the Metro, you will find a BMTC bus waiting outside the station. In a bid to provide better Metro connectivity to commuters, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has deployed as many as 63 buses at 11 Metro stations on the Purple and Green lines.

A  BMTC bus would be shuttling between these Metro stations with a frequency of 10 to 20 minutes. The BMTC has provided the feeder services at 11 stations following a demand from passengers. But the service will not be available at Baiyappanahalli Metro station since the BMRCL is not willing to provide space for feeder buses. The Metro plans to exploit the available land at the station for commercial purposes.

There is a feeder bus at SV Road Metro station towards Mahadevapura via Tin Factory as well as towards Whitefield and Hoodi. Commuters from HAL, Kasthurinagar, Domlur, Koramangala water tank, Cantonment railway station and Maharani College too can avail bus facilities to reach the nearest Metro stations without depending on other modes of transport, a BMTC official said.

“We are not able to recover even the operational costs. But there is an encouraging response to the feeder service. We have deployed 63 buses, including mini buses. The route and passenger demand would be evaluated on a regular basis to make necessary changes,” Chief Traffic Manager (Operation), Renukeshwar B C told Deccan Herald.

Another BMTC official admitted that though there is a good demand for these services at Majestic Metro station, they are not able to deploy more buses due to lack of space.
