The High Court on Friday granted conditional bail to the four suspects in the II PU Chemistry paper leak case. Justice K N Phaneendra granted bail to the suspects - M V Rudrappa, Obalaraju, K S Ranganath and B Anil Kumar - as they were in judicial custody for more than 90 days.

The suspects have been asked to deposit Rs 2 lakh each with two sureties.
The bench said that the government, however, can apply for cancellation of bail, in case of violation of any of the conditions or if the police invoke the provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOC Act), 2000.

In another case, the court - while hearing a petition by another suspect Eramallappa - refused to quash the FIR and the proceedings initiated against him.

Justice H Billappa said that if the petitioner approaches the court for bail, his application can be considered on merit. The bench refused to accept the contention that the person was not involved in ‘organised crime,’ and said that KCOC Act could be invoked, if required, by the police.
