Music festival

Pallavi Gana Sabha, in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, is organising a three-day music festival ‘Pallavi Sangeethotsav’. It is a centenary music festival in memory of legendary musician Pallavi S Chandrappa on August 5, 6 and 7 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Among the musicians who will perform are R K Padmanabhan, Mysore Nagaraj and Dr Manjunath, Suma Sudhindra, Nithyasree Mahadevan, Abhishek Raghuram, Mysore Chandan Kumar, Aishwarya Vidya Raghunath, Priya Purushothaman (Hindustani) and Mandolin Aravind Bhargav.

There will also be ‘Avadhana Pallavi’ demonstrations that will serve as a platform for students and music lovers to experience the power of ‘Raga’, ‘Tana’ and ‘Avadhana Pallavi’. A unique art form of Carnatic classical music by Varada Raja and Hemanth Kumar, Padma Gurudutt and Dr Nanda Kumar will also be a part of the event.

The other highlights include ‘Pallavi’ and ‘Taalavadhana Pallavi’ demonstrations. A biography of ‘Layayogi’ Pallavi S Chandrappa will be released on August 7. The book presents the exciting musical journey of Pallavi S Chandrappa and his invaluable ‘Swara’ composition for Purandara Dasa ‘Devaranamas’ and ‘Sri Basavanna Vachanas’.

The book also includes a few ‘Pallavi’ and ‘Avadhana Pallavi’ compositions of his guru Tirupathi Pallavi Vidyala Narasimhalu Naidu and Pallavi S Chandrappa himself, which would be an invaluable reference for all music students and lovers.

This event is aimed at reviving the idea of retrieving the much-forgotten ‘Pallavi’ and ‘Avadhana Pallavi’ to the younger generation worldwide through live demonstrations. For details, call 8123923023.
