Putting an end to speculation, former Zilla Panchayat president K Marigowda finally surrendered before the Nazarbad police here on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha had on July 3 filed a complaint against Marigowda at the Nazarbad police station. Shikha had accused him of intimidating her.

The Third Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court remanded K Marigowda in judicial custody for 13 days. Marigowda, said to be a confidant of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and his aides were accused of physically obstructing and harassing Shikha at the government guesthouse in the city when the DC was on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s protocol duty.

Marigowda surrendered before the police after the High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail petition and directed him to approach the lower court. Following the instructions of the court, the counsel representing Marigowda had withdrawn the petition.

Marigowda, who surrendered before the police at 1.50 pm, was produced before the court. The counsel for Marigowda sought bail but it was rejected after the assistant public prosecutor sought a day’s time to file his objections.

After a medical examination at the Krishna Rajendra Hospital, Marigowda was taken to Central Prisons in the city.
