Likith, Saloni continue to impress

Swimmers from the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre ruled the pool on day two of the Karnataka State Senior Aquatics Championships here at the Nettakallappa Aquatic Centre on Thursday.

While the likes of Likith SP and Saloni Dalal continued to dominate their events, seasoned campaigner Arvind Mani, Avinash Mani and Vaishnav Hegde too joined the list of record setters at the meet.

Setting early pace in the 200M breaststroke, Likith clinched the gold in 2:26.44, three seconds clear of the State mark set by Nishanth S of BAC (2:29.44) in 2015.

In the 50 metres breaststroke final, Vaishnav Hegde from Puttur touched the pad in 29.98  seconds, obliterating the previous best of 30.08 seconds set by Arjun JP of BAC in 2008.

Later in the 100M backstroke, another BAC swimmer Arvind was in good form as he claimed the top honours in 58.61 seconds, bettering his own mark of 59.20 seconds set last year.

Meanwhile in the women’s segment, it was once again the 13-year-old Saloni who let her performance take notice in the 200M breaststroke.

The BAC trainee won the race in 2:48.43, setting a new State mark, despite injuring herself during the warm-up. She bettered the previous best of 2:49.98 set by another BAC trainee V Sivarajani in 2002.
