Clock in Metro station dustbin causes panic

Last Updated 11 August 2016, 20:21 IST

A table clock found in a dustbin on the concourse level of the Magadi Road Metro station sent the police into a tizzy on Thursday morning.

A housekeeper found the small, defunct clock in the dustbin while cleaning it at 11.20 am, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) said in a statement. The staffer got suspicious and alerted the station controller, who called the police control room.

Police used bomb disposal and dog squads which checked the clock and concluded that it was not dangerous. The squads also combed the entire premises and declared it safe. It took more than two hours to check every nook and corner of the station, police said.

K S R Charan Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said, “We are examining the clock and checking with the vendor to trace the buyer. It appears a passenger just dumped the clock in the dustbin as it was not working.”

Another senior police officer said the clock was shaped liked a guitar. “We didn’t want to take any chance and have asked Metro officials to frisk people thoroughly before allowing them inside the station. They should also alert us if they find anyone or any object suspicious. A case has been registered at the Magadi Road police station.”
