Last Updated 13 August 2016, 19:18 IST

An employee of a private firm had a narrow escape when his bike went up in flames near Indian Institute of Science (IISc) near Yeshwantpur on Saturday morning.

According to the police, Diwan Kumar, a resident of Peenya, was on his way to Majestic around 9.30 am when sparks came out of the silencer and led to a fire. Kumar abandoned the bike on the road and fled to safety. The public alerted the Fire and Emergency Service personnel and the Yeshwantpur police.

Mechanical fault

The fire was doused but the bike had been burnt completely. Fortunately, Kumar did not suffer any injuries in the incident. The sudden fire is said to be an effect of a mechanical fault in the two-wheeler.

Several passersby stopped to catch a glimpse of the burning bike. This resulted in slow moving traffic in the area for some time. The police dispersed the crowd to ease the traffic congestion.
