Last Updated 14 August 2016, 18:51 IST

Superintendent of Police K T Balakrishna said that the clothes given to dry clean at Nitte have been seized by the investigating team led by Karkala ASP Sumana on Sunday.

He told Deccan Herald that the main accused Niranjan Bhat was taken to Nitte, where Bhat had given the clothes – which include the bed sheets and other clothes, but not the attire worn by the accused – to laundry as Bhat had confessed to the investigating team.

The police are yet to ascertain that the clothes contained blood stains or any other crucial evidences to support the crime, as it is being now sent to the DNA test.

Besides, checking other evidence samples, which also include the insignificant evidence samples sent to the DNA test to FSL, involves a laborious process, and the court permission is required at every phase of sending the DNA samples for verification to FSL.

The SP said that the ASP Karkala-led team is carrying out the investigation and the department has not received any communication with regard to the transfer of case to CID either from the government or DG office, the officer confirmed.
