The Service Level Improvement Plans (SLIPs) for drains, parks and open spaces, and stormwater drains at an estimated cost of Rs 160 crore have been prepared by the MCC for the year 2016-17.

The plans are prepared under Atal Mission Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme and submitted to the competent authority for approval, said MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer.

Speaking at the district Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting on Saturday, he said that the estimate includes Rs 154 crore for UGD and Rs two crore for the development of parks.

The detailed project report for the stormwater drains in the city at a cost of Rs 3 crore (for the year 2015-16) has been placed before the State-level High Powered Steering Committee (SHPSC) for administrative approval after obtaining technical sanction from competent authority.

The approved State Annual Action plan for Mangaluru includes development of large stormwater drain from Kadri Kambala bridge to Bejai Karangalpadi main road bridge (Rs 1.80 cr), development of large stormwater drain in Surathkal East, Katipalla 8th block (Rs 30 lakh), development of large stormwater drain in Katipalla North 8th block (Rs 30 lakh), development of large drain in Bangrakuloor (Rs 60 lakh).

However, the stormwater drain for Rs 1.80 lakh has been stopped and the same amount is being used for sewerage work as per SHPSC meeting. At the same time, parks at Kunjathbail KHB Colony will be developed at Rs 15 lakh and park at Surathkal West Region will be developed at a cost of Rs 10 lakh.

Stand Up India scheme

Lead District Manager Raghav V Yajamanya said that two proposals under Stand Up India Scheme have been received in the district.

The scheme is intended to promote entrepreneurship among Scheduled Castes, Schedule Tribes and women and will involve loans ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore. The scheme does not require third party guarantee for availing the loan. The rate of interest would be 13% and the loan should be repaid within 10 years.

All the 622 bank branches in the district have to compulsorily provide loan under the scheme to at least one beneficiary from SC/ST, minority communities. The MP directed the Lead District Manager to create awareness on the scheme among the public.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, 361 paddy farmers have registered for the scheme while 5280 arecanut and pepper growers have been covered under weather-based insurance scheme.
