30 encroachments to be cleared in new drive from today

Last Updated 15 August 2016, 20:04 IST

The demolition of structures built on rajakaluves (stormwater drains/feeder canals) will resume on Tuesday.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has made a list of 30 properties to be cleared and demolished in five days. On Tuesday, it will continue the demolition of remaining properties in Bommanahalli Assembly constituency. But it has not finalised the demolition of buildings in other parts of Bengaluru, barring one structure in Koramangala valley.

Over the next five days, the BBMP will demolish 24 buildings and clear six plots of land. The programme has been prepared by the office of chief engineer (stormwater drain), BBMP.

The BBMP launched the unprecedented drive to clear encroachments last week following the flash floods earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Mayor B N Manjunatha Reddy, along with town planning officers, will inspect stormwater drains and encroachments in Bommanahalli zone at 9.15 am on Tuesday. The inspection starts at Central Silk Board junction at 9.15 am, a BBMP official said.
