Man hangs himself after killing wife, 2 children

A 35-year-old man committed suicide after strangling his wife and two children to death in their house in Malagondanahalli in Kumbalgod in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Satish, 35, a labourer, his wife Manjula, 23, a garment factory employee and their two children Vijay, 5 and Shreya, 3.

The couple had married seven years ago and used to frequently quarrel over personal matters. Satish was an alcoholic and used to pester Manjula for money and they would end up fighting.

On Thursday morning, Manjula’s sister Nagarathna, who lives in the same area, went to their house and knocked on the door. But there was no response. She peeped through the window and found Satish hanging. The Kumbalgod police who were informed, visited the spot and found the wife and children dead.

They shifted the bodies for post-mortem, said the police. On Wednesday night, Satish and his family had gone to Nagarathna’s house for dinner. Around 11.30 pm, they came back and Manjula asked Satish to quit drinking and an argument ensued.

In a fit of rage, Satish strangled Manjula with a towel and also killed his children in a similar way. Later, he hanged himself from the ceiling, added the police. A case has been registered in Kumbalgod police station and investigation is on.
