The traffic police ordered an enquiry against three traffic policemen on charges of assaulting and robbing a software engineer of his valuables over a parking issue.

The incident occurred on August 15 that involved Venky Nallagutla, a software engineer from Andhra Pradesh. Nallagutla approached Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) Abhishekh Goyal and lodged a complaint.

“I have directed Assistant Commissioner of Police Traffic (East) Sachin Ghorpade to conduct an enquiry and submit a report. Appropriate action will be taken based on the ACP’s recommendations,” Goyal told DH.

“We have already questioned Nallagutla and a few policemen in connection with the incident. The truth will be known once the enquiry is completed,” Ghorpade said.

In his complaint, Nallagutla stated that the incident occurred on the night of August 15. His cousin had inadvertently parked Nallagutla’s car in a no-parking zone near Vinayaka Temple close to the K R Puram police station. Three policemen, who were conducting a drive, booked his cousin for violating the traffic rule. Nallagutla rushed to the police on being informed by his cousin about the incident.

Nallagutla claimed that the policemen assaulted him as he demanded a receipt for the fine amount paid by his cousin. “I told them that I was an Indian when they asked me to introduce myself. The cops assaulted me because I objected to their abusing me,” Nallagutla said.

The three policemen dragged him into the K R Puram law and order police station, Nallagutla said. They assaulted him and put him in the cell for over six hours. He alleged that the policemen robbed his gold chain worth Rs 40,000, Rs 3,000 cash and two mobile phones.

The police threatened Nallagutla that they would book him for creating a public nuisance. The police alleged that Nallagutla was drunk, but did not conduct an alcometer test, Nallagutla claimed.
