Encroachment, lapses in Asharaya scheme issues dominate meet

 People from various parts of the district, on Monday, complained about their problems and submitted memoranda to the District in-charge and PWD Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa during ‘Janaspandana’, the district-level public grievances meeting, on the premises of government guesthouse, here.

Issues related to civic amenities, encroachment of government land and lakes, delay in allotment of sites and houses under Ashraya scheme were raised. Anand Kumar of Hebbal in the city, said, “As many as 2,750 people had paid money for houses under Ashraya scheme in Hebbal area on Survey numbers 141 and 80, 15 years ago. The district administration had alloted lands, but, now Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is planning to construct a swimming pool while many private people have encroached upon the land identified under Ashraya scheme. The minister should take steps to provide houses for the needy,” he said.

Kemparaju, a resident of Bilikere in Hunsur taluk, said, “The government has sanctioned Rs 2.70 crore for the development of NH-275 in Bilikere, but, the officials have failed to take up the works as per the norms.”

 He alleged that a few people are constructing illegal commercial buildings next to
highway, but the officials concerned are not bothered to take action against such illegal activities. The officials are threatening the people if they oppose the irregularities, he said.
Rampant encroachment

A resident of Varuna, represented by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Assembly, alleged that the Varuna lake has been encroached upon by private parties for various purposes.

Nizamuddin, an ex-serviceman of Vidyaranyapuram in the city, said, “The district administration had acquired 10 acres of land in the area for the development activities and had reserved 20 guntas for a burial ground. But, a private developer has encroached upon the land and is developing a layout.”

Members of Spoorthi Samskruthika, Kale mattu Parisara Samrakshane Seva Trust, T Narsipur, submitted a memorandum to the minister, urging repair of roads and streetlights for the town.

Members harassing PDO

Srirampura gram panchayat president Chudamani complained against two GP members, accusing them of threatening Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) Hanamanthraju. She said, “The members are threatening the PDO to clear fake bills and were also posing a hurdle in holding the general meeting.”

Earlier, the minister distributed benefits like old age pension and compensation to farmers to 35 select beneficiaries. Addressing the people, the minister said, “The government has decided to reach the people directly to solve their problems, and thus meetings at taluk and district-level are being organised on a monthly basics. The petitions received during the meeting will be reviewed at the DC’s office and they will be forwarded to the departments concerned for further action.”

MLA Vasu, Mayor B L Bhyrappa, Deputy Commissioner B Randeep, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare, Deputy Commissioner of Police H T Shekar, ZP CEO Shivashankar, Mysuru Urban Development Authority Commissioner Dr M Mahesh and district and taluk-level officials were present.
