Foundation stone laid for pvt bus stand, Zilla Panchayat Bhavan

Minister for Science and Technology M R Seetharam on Saturday laid the foundation stone for long-pending works on private bus stand and Zilla Panchayat Bhavan.

The bus stand is estimated to cost Rs 4.99 crore and Rs 1.90 crore has been already released for the purpose. The Zilla Panchayat Bhavan is estimated to cost Rs 18 crore – both projects worth a total of Rs 22.99 crore.

The bus stand will come up on three acres of land while five acres have been identified for the Zilla Panchayat Bhavan, both sites on the outskirts of the town. The construction work of the bus stand is expected to be completed by March or April next, but it may take 18 months to complete the works on the Bhavan.

Speaking to media, Seetharam, who is also Kodagu district in-charge minister, said that the focus is also on expanding the roads where private buses are operated. The newly built Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences is expected to start from September and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be invited for the dedication ceremony.

Development in focus
Insisting that the Siddaramaiah-led state government is generous in doling out funds towards development of the district, Seetharam sought the cooperation of citizens in
taking the district on the progress path.

To a query on region turning sensitive again, with disturbing incidents in the recent days, Seetharam said, “People should live in harmony, as peace cannot be assured in the event of any disharmony. The deputy commissioner has submitted a report to the Home Department in relation to the murder of autorickshaw driver Praveen Poojary who was also a right wing worker. The relief will be distributed in accordance with deaths during rioting, at the earliest.”

MLC Veena Achaiah, Zilla Panchayat member K P Chandrakala, Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Charulatha Somal, Superindent of Police P Rajendra Prasad and Municipal Commissioner B B Pushpavathi were present.
