BMTC to do away with divisional offices

Last Updated 29 August 2016, 17:35 IST

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to restructure its administrative machinery from a three-tier to two-tier system, with a view to ensure profit and increased use of manpower.

Besides many measures suggested by its chairman, H Nabhiraj Jain, one was to do away with its five divisional offices. Around 653 staff presently working at these divisions, will also be pressed into service in central offices and depots, to beat the staff crunch.

Transport minister, Ramalinga Reddy, has also given his consent to do away with divisional offices located at North, East, West, South and Central parts of the city.

A BMTC official told DH that the divisional offices acted more like middleme
n between the central office and depots. “As the central office is located within a radius of hardly 20 km from depots, service of the divisional offices are not required.”

The BMTC will operate buses under ‘Bus Bhagya’ scheme to provide concessional service to garment workers in the city from October first week. Initially, around 50 buses will be operated and the number will be increased gradually.
