Last Updated 02 September 2016, 19:37 IST

The Congress on Friday wondered whether Reliance Industries had sought permission from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to use Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph to promote its telecom service.

“If permission was granted to Reliance, then we can see the prime minister promoting chocolates and other products,” AICC spokesperson Ajay Maken said when asked to comment on advertisements featuring Modi.

Maken said if the prime minister’s photograph has been used without permission, then the Prime Minister’s Office should take legal action.

Kejriwal slams PM
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a dig at Modi calling him “Mr Reliance”.
The chief minister also accused the prime minister of “openly endorsing” a commercial product.

“Modiji you keep modelling for Reliance ads. Labourers across the country will teach you a lesson in 2019,” Kejriwal said on Twitter.

“Any more proof required to prove that Modiji is in Ambani’s pockets?” the chief minister.
Twitterati had a field day in taking pot shots at Modi.

“If Jio doesn’t work as well as promised, will @PMOIndia be liable for action under celebrity endorsement law?” said Pawan Khera referring to the Consumer Protection Bill. The Consumer Protection Bill  is pending before Parliament.
