Garden City College recently celebrated its annual college fest, ‘Gardenia’, based on the theme Rio Olympics.

The curtain raiser of the fest comprised a flash mob, dancing to the tunes of the 2016 Olympics theme song as well as other upbeat tracks, beautifully showcasing the spirit of the Olympics.

The flags of the different host countries of the Olympics were unfurled with the flag of Garden City College being hoisted in the end.

Day one saw several colleges competing against each other in various inter-college events such as ‘Paste the best of Olympics’ (collage making), ‘Paint the sport’ (face painting), ‘Rio Click’ (photography) and ‘Hurdle Thought’ (Sports Psychology journal) which explored the creative potential of the participants.

Besides the various departmental events, a slew of general events were also lined up for the participants and the general audience. ‘Rhythmic Gymnast’ (solo dance), ‘Step Vault’ (on-the-spot choreography), ‘Synchrony’ (group dance), ‘Sing and Win’ (solo song), ‘Battle of Bands’ (band performance) and various others brought into focus the many talented faces.  The valedictory programme, held in the evening, saw chairman Dr Joseph V G and other eminent guests gracing the occasion. The winners and runners-up for the
various events were awarded medals and the overall champion’s trophy was won by Christ University.

A lineup of colourful cultural programmes took over the stage next. Students of the host college enchanted the audience with their performances.

The grand finale of the fest also had many interesting items lined up. A dance performance by the inhouse dance academy, ‘Roll for Soul’, and a beautiful fashion show choreographed and organised by the students of Garden City College were the head turners.

A musical night with a live performance by Coke Studio was the highlight of the day with free entry for everyone.
