The state BJP on Tuesday demanded that the government should not release water to Tamil Nadu. It has also demanded that the government approach the Supreme Court and ask it to send the Central Monitoring Committee to ascertain the water level in the Cauvery basin and Tamil Nadu.

Addressing the media in Bengaluru, BJP leaders B S Yeddyurappa and D V Sadananda Gowda held the state government responsible for its failure, both in protecting the interest of the state and maintaining law and order.

Yeddyurappa said that the government’s affidavit to Supreme Court on voluntarily releasing 10,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu, was against the decision taken in the all-party meeting.

“The affidavit filed by the state seeking modification order is badly drafted – it is most unintelligent. The government has committed a blunder. It failed to assess the consequences of the verdict. It should have made proper security arrangements, but it did not. The irresponsibility of the government has resulted in the loss of two lives and loss of property worth crores,” he added.

On Siddaramaiah and Congress leaders seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention, Yeddyurappa said that the government was continuing to make this demand, despite advocate Mohan Katarki making it clear that the executive could not intervene when the judicial process is on.
